Rhode Island Auto Insurance Laws
Rhode Island uses the tort system when settling losses caused
by car accidents. Under this system, you buy liability insurance
that protects other drivers if you were at fault for the car
accident. Rhode Island requires every driver and vehicle owner
to be financial responsible and most RI citizens purchase
automobile liability insurance to fulfill the requirement.
Rhode Island auto insurance law requires you to carry minimum
limits of liability coverage: bodily injury liability of $25,000
per person and $50,000 per accident; and $25,000 per accident
for property damage to the other person's property. Rhode
Island car insurance companies will offer high limits of liability
coverage and optional coverages such as uninsured /underinsured
motorist coverage, comprehensive coverage and collision coverage.
